In this science review we present information from peer-reviewed publications to educate providers on how factors such as age, sex, sleep, and mood can affect responses to vaccines. We don’t have data on how these will affect the COVID-19 vaccine specifically, but this paper addresses how lifestyle and nutrients may be related to responses to other vaccines.
Lactoferrin (LF) has been advocated by researchers as a potential method to prevent or treat COVID-19. In this blog post, Noelle Patno, PhD shares how this natural, endogenous compound has many anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and even anticarcinogenic effects, and a large body of in vitro evidence suggests that lactoferrin may have efficacy because of its ability to inhibit viruses and bind to viral surface receptors, which are related to SARS-CoV-2 mechanisms.
In this on-demand webinar, Gerard Mullin, MD, a gastroenterologist and nutritionist, provides a unique perspective on the role of the gastrointestinal system on immune health. He highlights the research being done using high doses of vitamin D and emphasizes the importance of adequate levels and appropriate dosing. In addition, he gives an overview of his future research projects related to COVID-19, particularly the potential risk associated with PPI.

In this recent webinar, Deanna Minich, PhD and Georgia Austin, CNS, CCN addressed the often overlooked relationship between the gut microbiota and obesity. Protecting immunity is top-of-mind with patients and clinicians. This course outlined how obesity presents as an extreme vulnerability to infections and how that can be addressed in the clinic by focusing on the relationship of the gut microbiome and immune system. Now available on the Teachable platform, along with the presentation, participants will receive the newly revised 5R protocol as well as two patient-facing handouts.
